Getting here and day trips

Everything for a relaxed start: how to get from the airport to Costa Calma, who welcomes you and which day trips are worth it.

From the airport

Fuerteventura airport (FUE) is about 65 km north of Costa Calma, roughly 50 minutes by car on the FV-2 expressway. A hire car from the airport is the most convenient option.

Bus, taxi and transfer

Buses and taxis also run to Costa Calma; the stop is about 100 m from the house. A transfer can be arranged for a fee. Just mention it in your enquiry.

Arrival with Eduardo

On arrival you are welcomed by Eduardo, the local property manager, who shows you the house. He speaks German, English, French, Italian and Spanish. You receive his contact details in advance to arrange your arrival time. The €110 final cleaning fee is paid to Eduardo on arrival.

Parking

At both houses you can park for free on the street. The Casa del Sol Rio complex also has some parking spaces, but not for every flat.

Costa Calma beaches and Sotavento

A few minutes

Costa Calma beaches and Sotavento

The long beaches of Costa Calma start right on your doorstep. A few minutes further south lies the Sotavento lagoon with shallow turquoise water. It is famous for kitesurfing and windsurfing and lovely for a walk at low tide.

Cofete and Villa Winter

approx. 1 hour

Cofete and Villa Winter

One of Europe’s most impressive beaches: miles long, wild and undeveloped, with the Jandía mountains above. The Atlantic is often too rough for swimming here. The road from Morro Jable is a gravel track, so check whether your hire car contract allows it.

Palm gorge inland

approx. 1 hour

Palm gorge inland

Around Vega de Río Palmas and the Barranco de las Peñitas you hike between Canary palms, rocks and small pools of water, past an old reservoir. Bring good shoes and water.

Cliffs and caves in the west

approx. 1 hour

Cliffs and caves in the west

On the west coast the cliffs drop steeply to the Atlantic, with caves and natural rock pools. Keep your distance when the sea is rough, the surf is strong.

Morro Jable

approx. 25 minutes

Morro Jable

The town at the very south has a beach promenade, restaurants and a harbour. Rays can often be seen in the clear harbour water. This is also where the track to Cofete begins.

Starry skies

evenings

Starry skies

Fuerteventura is a certified Starlight Reserve. Drive a little out of town in the evening and you can often see the Milky Way with the naked eye.
